Firm Secures Win to Limit Scope of Data Security Breach Case

Halbrook Wood is pleased to announce it recently secured a win for a client in a data security breach case that significantly limited the scope of a putative class action lawsuit. The plaintiff brought suit against a public health agency claiming she suffered injuries for an alleged unauthorized disclosure of health information, namely COVID-19 test results.

Partners Mitch Wood and Anne Baggott and Associate Katie Rickley successfully moved to dismiss five of the seven claims, for breach of fiduciary duty of confidentiality, implied breach of contract, invasion of privacy by public disclosure of private facts, violations of the Missouri Merchandising Practices Act, and negligence per se.
